The text is fabulous! It’s a collection of short stories about the Jewish faith. Included are a number of Yiddish phrases for the reader to learn. The illustrations are brilliant with color and life. This is a great book to read to your child throughout the holiday season.

Thanksgiving: Breaking a Myth

November 1st, 2007
I first came across this book while once subbing in a second grade classroom. After reading it, I realized how important this book was. Although the text may be challenging for some second graders, it is a wonderful book to read to students k-5. The book reveals the truth behind the myths that we have all grown to believe of the the first Thanksgiving.
A Spooky Month to Read

October 30th, 2007
With appeal to both children and adults, Mr. Lichtenheld’s masterpiece is a necessary addition to the book shelf and a mandatory feature for my October Book of the Month. The text is as lively as the wonderful illustrations. His sense of humor in this story brings comfort to the fears children have of monsters. Kids have a lot of fun with this story and they learn that there truly is nothing to fear underneath their bed.

Wild September Reading

September 3rd, 2007
This is a classic children’s book about a young boy named Max. Max gets into a bit of trouble and is sent to his bed without supper; in this story Max channels his anger and frustration into creativity. The child reader is taken through a journey of monstrous proportions via the imagination of Max. A great moral can be learned through this tale.
